Traveling can be stressful. Don’t let your carry on luggage add to that stress. The following four things are items you always want to pack with you in your carry on luggage.

Do not put your electronics in your checked luggage. Your laptop, phone and batteries should be with you in your carry on bags. Some planes restrict you from taking a laptop on the plane, but try to fly with an airline that does allow you. You don't want to keep expensive electronics in checked luggage because it will get thrown and possibly broken while you are on the flight. 

Maybe you’re not taking any medicines at all, but you should always carry a first aid kit with you. If you have any prescriptions, maybe for high blood pressure or an epipen, never put them in your checked bag. If your checked luggage gets lost and your medicine is in it, you will be out of luck. Certain medications can actually get stolen as well. Keep your medicines in the prescription bottle in case there are any questions from TSA.

Your plane tickets, hotel reservations, passports, etc should stay on your person as you are on the plan. You can keep some of these items online in your emails and your apps but you need to keep your passport with you in your carry on. 

You’re eventually going to come home from vacation. If your bag was lost, your keys are not getting back to you. If this happens, how will you drive back home? How will you get into your house? When you have arrived at your destination ,you can put your keys somewhere else but as you’re on the flight, keep your keys with you.

Your carry on luggage should house the things most important to you as you travel as well as the items you can least afford to lose. This includes your keys, travel documents, medicine and electronics. When you have these items packed in your carry on, even if your luggage is lost or stolen, you will be able to get home safely.
