AnyForty
AnyForty asked me to illustrate their mantra Evolve or become extinct. Awesome, as I'd love to explore typography more in the future!
We came up with the idea of vines growing through a fence to illustrate the quote. They remind you to always keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacle that is in front of you. If a current situation or way of working isn't going so well, it's often a great idea to change things up to overcome your struggles. We then took the idea of evolution a bit further by incorporating a bunch of cyber-punk insects and plants, giving the piece a bit of a darker edge.
Process
1: Roughly sketching the typography running through the fence. The words still look a bit wonky here, I straightened that out later in the project. 2: Adding bugs and plant details. 3: Vectorising the drawing. Changing the look of some insects here too. 4: Using the vector shapes as a guide, I'm adding shading in Photoshop using a simple dissolve brush. Here's a shading and colour test, but we quickly decided that we wanted to keep the design just black and white.
The design is available on both black and white shirts, long or short sleeves.
It was fun to design an AnyForty chest logo as well. It gives you a hint of what's happening on the back of the shirt.
