These designs were meant to be a guerrilla style campaign leading up to the opening
of the “How To Read El Pato Pascual” exhibition.

The concept was based on the important role language plays in the breakdown
of Democracy. The tag lines referred to the 1973 overthrow of Chile's democratically elected government by a military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet, whose
chilling quote "Sometimes democracy must be bathed in blood" was used in one of
the posters. The other quote is an instruction by then US president, Richard Nixon to
his Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. Declassified CIA documents detailing the development of the plot that were used as research became part of the designs.
The Disney imagery is a direct reference to “How To Read Donald Duck”, the controversial book written in Chile before the coup, that inspired both the exhibition and book project.

Unfortunately, as shipping costs mounted and solving the logistics of importing large pieces of artwork from around the world became the main priority for the exhibition,
the poster were not printed. In their place, I quickly created animations based on these designs that were screened on a video billboard on Santa Monica Boulevard.
