The Yankees And Red Sox: a Rivalry For The Ages

The Yankees And Red Sox: a Rivalry For The Ages
For all intents and purposes, the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry is the biggest rivalry in all of baseball.  It may also arguably be the greatest rivalry in all of American professional sports.

For nearly a century, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have created their own set of tales of glories and defeats, heroes and legends, controversies and curses, apart from those in American baseball lore.  It is history that makes this rivalry an extremely significant one, not just to their fan bases, but to American sports in general.
The story of the rivalry started out pretty lopsided as Boston dominated the first two decades of American professional baseball in the 20th century.  However, when they sold a certain player to the Yankees in 1919, everything changed.  That player was Babe Ruth.

For 85 years, the Red Sox would not win a single World Series, and fans would note it as the Curse of the Bambino.

The Yankees on the other hand would have their fortunes reversed almost overnight, making the seven straight World Series appearances, and emerging triumphant in four.  They would go on to dominate the league for the next few decades, and gradually solidify their hold on the greatest American professional sports team of all time.
The Yankees and Red Sox would do battle many times throughout the past century, with New York coming out on top for the most part.
