The book cover design was created at Tafe, where the brief was to select a novel from a list, and then create a design that is reflective of the narrative elements. I selected ‘Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde’, and I wanted to explore the idea of a split personality in a non-literal way. I created fine line artwork that resembled the motion of the chemicals that were featured in the novel, but also represents the changing neural pathways in the brain when the change between two personalities occur. I then added a watercolour layer to reflect the violent and macabre tone of the novel, and this imagery went across the cover to link with the text. The text was utilised to reflect the gothic nature of the novel, and add a level of sophistication in ensuring that the design is for a literary tone. The work was hand generated and then edited in Adobe Photoshop. This was then all collated in Adobe InDesign.
