Karrie Irish (Pinellas)'s profile

Pride and Prejudice Adaptations

Karrie Irish, of Pinellas County, Florida, is an expert in the marketing and management of medical products and services and serves as vice president of outside sales at Key Health in Pinellas County. When away from work, Karrie Irish enjoys reading both fiction and nonfiction. Her favorite novel is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

An enduring favorite since it was first published, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is beloved by many and has inspired a number of film adaptations.

Almost as popular as the book is the 1995 BBC adaptation, which, at six hours, is just long enough to capture the spirit of the work with a faithful representation of its plot and wit. Colin Firth perfectly portrays Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle is a remarkable Lizzie Bennet, with supporting actors also rising to the occasion through their own performances.

The 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice focuses more on scenery, drama, and romance. Many ardent fans of the novel are disappointed by this film's lack of emphasis on Elizabeth's character and her relationship with Mr. Darcy, but the film is beautiful with outstanding cinematography.

Of course, there's also a much looser, modern adaptation of the book - Bridget Jones's Diary, a light film starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant that follows the same general plot in the form of a romantic comedy.
