Savannah, Georgia holds much of my personal and artistic growth in it’s tropical landscape. Self realization has blossomed from adversity throughout my four years here. I chose to present this growth through a print of floral Savannah elements wrapped around a woman’s figure. The female figure represents myself living in a very foreign landscape compared to my northern roots. A moon replaces the shape of the head, illustrating a mental pull between positive and negative thoughts, as well as a balance of effort and ease. The two opposing notions depend and inform one another. The yellow color scheme, “Gleam,” depicts the easy joy that sunny days in Savannah brings, while the purple, “Gloom” embodies the weighing melancholy mood brought by sunless weather. Yet I’ve found that the murkiness in these dreary days possesses a mystic quality which often reveals a truth hidden behind a previous false cheerful disposition.
A two color over-print gives the screen-print dimension, embodying the deeper narrative weather plays in my state of mind. Repetitive, meditative movements and mantras often pull me out of over thought and into peace.
