Yesterday’s Images, Today’s Graphic Design

Persian "Terra Cotta" [pots and earthenware], is the oldest "Terra Cotta" in the world (Persia is the ancient name of Iran). The painted images on these pots are simple, abstract, symbolic and stylized, meaningful, and not decorative; and the preparation to create alphabet. In fact, the ancient artists were able to communicate with the outer world by using the unique visual language of these images. After studying these ancient images and their focus on forms and shapes, we can find these ancient images look more modern than modern images. The book includes two parts.

The first part is a classified collection of the painted images of Earthenware from the prehistoric times of Iran, includes 539 Persian prehistoric images categorized by subject. I have collected the images from the historical sites of Iran, museums, and books around the world. I scanned the photos and images, then, reproduce them in Vector format.

The second part finds out how Iranian designers has inspired by these images, and how these historical images have injected the Persian Identity to their artwork. Also, when these images are used in applied Arts, such as graphic design, fashion design, and interior design; then these ancient images could now enter into the lives of the Modern Man

The project is a Collecting and classifying images of prehistoric painted potteries of Iran, which was published as a bilingual book (Farsi and English), in Iran. I also designed the book layout, cover, and other marketing materials.
