Bloom Grocery: Retail Design & Rebranding

A collaboration between interior designers and advertising designers.
Interior Design: Annie Masincupp, Mckenzie Mann, Rebeca de la Torre, Maura Sarat.
Advertising Design: Benjamin Harrison, Phillip Ford, Megan Hunt.
Our team completed this project in the spring of 2012, as part of our coursework at SCAD. Shown below are a series of drawings and graphics which have been executed by me. The work behind the design portrayed has been contributed to by all team members.

As a group, we identified a retail brand which was in decline and in need of rebranding services. That brand is Bloom, a retail grocery store, founded by Food Lion. Together, we created new advertising and in store components in order to produce a new customer experience that would generate profits.

Concept
Inspired by the English Picturesque Garden Theory, our goal is to better customer service through design.

The Picturesque Garden Theory employs the following principles: asymmetry, reciprocal views, winding paths, and experientialism. By using these properties appropriately, we believe we can positively and naturally manipulate user experience, just as the picturesque gardens have done.

A primary example of the culmination of these principles, manifesting in the user experience, can be found in the "Learning Labs". Some of these "labs" exist within the cafe, the general sales, and the produce departments. The Learning Lab is a key point where design provides the user with both subliminal and explicit information to create a more positive retail experience, and more aware buying decision.
