To start off the flag I made several comps of appealing colors and shapes to try to start with a stunning base. With that base flag I started to manipulate it into a flag with a lot of symbolism. From there I did some research and I found that San Jose had originated from a missionary and had been able to grow, because of the railroad. So I implemented the cross first and then added segment to symbolize the railroad. Because of my original design the color scheme was a yellow a black and a gold and since I didn't like that and it resembled to close to the original seal I switched it out with the background colors on the city's flag.
