Assignment: Show proficiency in Adobe Photoshop CS6 by creating a portrait of someone outside of the student's field of study. Portrait must be either 11" x 17" or 13" x 19." Photos can be from student or elsewhere. Printing of the poster is required.
Concept: A portrait of William Morris. William Morris was an English artist, writer, libertarian socialist, and a particularly prolific textile designer. I was immediately attracted to the idea of using his wallpaper patterns to create his portrait, at least to achieve a lot of visual texture and interest. To support his political thinking, I thought it was also an interesting contradiction to create a portrait of him, as portraits place importance on an individual, with him essentially blending into the background. I dispersed much smaller portraits of him throughout the background pattern, to echo his political beliefs in the importance of equality.
