Almonds - Packaging series

Photos by Nathan Quattrini

The almond was first cultivated 4000 years ago in the
Middle East regions, and was closely associated with
good fortune, fertility and beauty. Egyptian pharaohs
were found to be buried with almonds in their tombs,
which in turn inspired the pyramid shape of the
packaging for this project.

This series was created from the concept of multiples
of a single object, an almond. Gestalt principles
such as proximity and similarity were employed to
create the symbol that can be seen on the front
face. I started using a gold monochromatic harmony
to reinforce the idea of reverence and desirability,
and after determining the flavors I applied the same
technique to the other two varieties.

The packages are 5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide.
The structures are created out of 14 point SBS
card stock, and feature a “draw bridge” panel in the
back that opens.
