Design and Materiality - spring 2017
In design and materiality, I leaned different techniques of fabric manipulation. We created collections based on our swatches.
The first collection began with contrasting words and research images (journal pages). My concept developed into exploring patterns seen in nature. My swatches include beading, embroidery, and appliqué. For my lineup, I used collaged shapes based on my swatches and fabrics.
The second collection was based on Galveston, TX, the city my mom grew up in. I wanted to represent the Texas coast through color and patterns. The techniques I used in my swatches were dye, beading, layering, and embroidery. Similar to the first collection, I used collage to create silhouettes.
Design and Materiality was one of my favorite classes I've taken because it allowed me to be more experimental in my research, manipulation, and drawings.
