Senior Studio I - Thesis

This is the start to my thesis project. Below is a compiled presentation combining all of the projects I worked on through the quarter.
For the first project I was asked to find 4 scholarly articles that would help me in my research for my thesis project. Then we summarized the reasons we chose the article, and how it related to the thesis project.
For the second assignment I was asked to create a presentation including 2 case studies of past projects in the interior design / architecture field that would help me with my thesis project. For both I was required to include basic information on the project, the location, floor plans, design strategies, and more. Then to conclude I explained the relevance each case study had to my thesis.
The next project was an actual observational study of a place that would assist with the development of my project. I chose a local adoption center in San Diego, went there and spent time understanding the end-user flow, who used which spaces, and other important observations.
During week 5 I was asked to start really thinking about turning my research question into a thesis statement. The next assignment details how I did so.
Once I had my research question turned into a thesis statement, I was able to then move into the next assignment - my actual Thesis Proposal. Shown below this goes in depth covering why I chose this idea, what I am proposing, who the end users will be, possible problems to overcome, and much more.
Once I had the thesis proposal, I then moved into finding a suitable building for my project. Shown below is a presentation on the location and building that I have chosen, and why it is relevant to my thesis. This project includes detailed floor plans, programming requirements, imagery, diagrammatic building analysis's, and much more.
Once the building and location had been chosen - it was back to design for a bit. The below is a collage I was asked to create depicting at least three major ideas related to my thesis. The thoughts and ideas behind the collages are:
1. The puzzle pieces, silhouette of the person with all the imagery, and head-shot of the boy, are meant to reflect that the children of adoption are usually always trying to figure out who they are without having all the information they feel they need to decide that.
2. The blurry family portrait and the family walking off together are meant to signify the longing that children have for a family that they may never know as well as the longing that adoptive parents have to fulfill the need to have children and therefore a family.
3. The tree and the DNA strand represent the unknown. Where do the children of adoption come from, tying back to the 1st thought - who are they. Who were the people who they came from - will they ever see them again (siblings, biological parents, etc.).
Last but not least is my final presentation. This is a compilation of all my research for this quarter for my thesis. This includes, statistics, project goals, activities offered at the center, schematic work such as bubble diagrams, and more.
