Public Service Announcement Posters
This project was a lot of fun. For this assignment, we first did research on public service announcement posters to get ideas on what type of PSA appealed to us. Did we prefer tongue in cheek, something serious, something clever? While I was doing this, my idea popped into my mind and I knew that was my project. Nevertheless, I did dozens of thumbnails and came up with nearly a dozen alternate slogans on the first week of the assignment.
The second week, we were asked to go at it again, only this time we were asked to pick key words from our slogan and look up alternate words, and then create poster thumbnails for the best combination of our alternate words.
When we began our digital sketches, I realized how important it was to remember CRAP; Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity. My first sketch, my alignment was off as well as my proximity and my contrast. It was an amateurish attempt.
The second week of doing the digital posters, I refined my concept to the point that I thought it was good. But then realized that my contrast could still use some work. I made the image larger and contrasted the text so that it was more visible. I also worked on the alignment more, lifting the text toward the top and making it bigger so it filled more of the empty space.
This is week 4 of our project and I've changed the type yet again and realigned everything. I hope you enjoy my posters. Don't do drugs!
