Keeping Tibetan Traditions without Tibet
Since his Holiness the Dalai Lama fled over the Himalayas, over 150,000 refugees have followed him and settled in the northern areas of India. In 1959, The Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre at Darjeeling was established to offer community and rehabilitation into the Indian nation to those refugees and their following generations. Today, traditional Tibetan life is passed along through continued training of artisan and handicraft skills. Funds raised from the sale of crafted items support the Centre's activities.
