Objective
Designers Against Child Slavery is a Florida, USA based non-profit organization that empowers creativesto rise up against sex trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children. Our objective is to leveragethe talents of our global group of artists in order to raise awareness and create a source of fundingfor the prevention and restoration of survivors of trafficking.
Philosophy
Art and design are powerful forms of communication that anyone can connect with, thus making it an extremely effective tool for social causes. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so by creating exhibitions full of powerful and visceral artwork, DACS acts as a voice for those who have lost theirs. We seek to be a testimony to the power of art and empower creatives to use their talents to spread the word about sex trafficking.
Issue
Sex trafficking occurs when people are forced or coerced into the commercial sex trade against their will. Child sex trafficking includes any child involved in commercial sex. Sex traffickers frequently target vulnerable people with histories of abuse and then use violence, threats, lies, false promises, debt bondage, or other forms of control and manipulation to keep victims involved in the sex industry. Sex trafficking exists within the broader commercial sex trade, often at much higher rates than most people realize or understand. At the moment, human trafficking is considered a highly profitable industry because of the high demand and low risk associated with it. The lack of a multiplicity of factors such as community awareness around the issue, comprehensive legislation, resources and aftercare for victims all work together to make the industry relatively low-risk for traffickers.
