Gloria & Boyfriend

It was my last day in New York. I spent the whole day roaming around the city, fulfilling my childhood dream of seeing the dinosaur skeletons at the American Museum of Natural History. Yay! In the evening I decided to see a concert in The Studio at Webster Hall. I got a ticket at the box office shortly after kick-off, met some nice people and then had a great evening with Royal Republic, Dinosaur Pile-Up and Frank Carter. Especially the latter is an absolute recommendation for friends of Hardcorepunk.
But anyway. I wanted to do a shoot on the last night in this city. The last night. The next day at 11 a. m. we will be heading for the airport again. Gloria is working at the merch of Dinosaur Pile-Up. We talk about photography – I have my camera with me and occasionally squeeze myself into the pogo in the second row. As I take the opportunity to catch my breath again and ask the interesting merchandise-seller if she would like to shoot the next morning. Next morning? She suggests the night that has just started. I’m maneuvering myself back into the crowd with beer and camera.

Some time later: It’s two in the morning. The bands still drink their beer in front of the flight cases on the sidewalk, the guests have already left. Annika and Jasper, two Dresdeners whom I had met a few hours before at the entrance, are still there. We chat for a while, drink beer and eat cakes from the shop around the corner. The red glow of the pub’s advertisements across the street magically attracts me.
Gloria, with whom I have meanwhile walked over to the other side of the street for shooting, is self-confident and not afraid of the camera. A few spectators accompany us with their looks. Nevertheless, we still manage to isolate ourselves mentally and to take a few moments of peace and quiet away from the situation. Then suddenly her boyfriend, whom I met shortly before, crashes the scene. Yeah. Why not? We communicate without talking and the two of them seem to be happy to stage themselves. I’m just capturing the scene.
Then we all have to go. It’s all happening very quickly. I pack up my stuff, we leave and separate at a subway station where I take the next subway to Brooklyn.
