Queen B Bag Design

As part of our fashion accessories Masters course, we were give a task of designing a handbag for certain jobs. Each student had to select a card randomly and whatever job was written on the back was the theme of the project.

Guess what i got? A beekeeper! My first reaction was : " What on earth does a beekeeper do?" and so, the research began. It was crucial to understand what a beekeeper does in order to design something suitable, maybe something for the tools? But they were all too big. And the suit itself already made them pretty stuffy. It kind of felt like if I were in their shoes, I really wouldn't want to carry anything around.

So, I decided to alter my perspective a little and not just think of the beekeeper, but also the bees! And who is more important than her royal highness the Queen Bee!
After a little more research, I was shocked that the bee universe was actually in danger, and therefore not only putting the existence of honey in danger, but around 70% of crops, too!
So, as a means to help promote bee-keeping and keep the environment in order, I decided to make a bag for the Queen Bee to be transported and start her own colony with fresh beekeepers.
The concept was pretty simple: having a hexagonal shaped bag, made out of wood, with openings made out of mesh to give the Queen bee the feeling that she is at home in terms of shapes, materials and necessities such as light and air entering through the breathable mesh.

The inspiration was then commercialized and can be held as a small pochette looking ever so classy.
Or it can be wrapped around the wrist with a fascinating leather wrist band where the bag can be attached to it and just dangles down.
After that, I also came up with a couple more ideas on how to make a collection from this concept. A cross/shoulder bag with the same pattern used in the leather wrist band evident in the strap as well as the closing buckle of the bag could be another addition to the collection.
A wooden bag with hexagonal details added in various places as well as the double circular connection added to the strap was also another idea.
