So, I recently got into making t-shirt graphics. I wanted a new challenge - and I am determined I'm going to learn how to use Illustrator! All of my shirts were designed using Illustrator - no Photoshop involved. All graphics are vector.

I started out with what is probably the most difficult design first - recreating the Shadow of the Colossus sigil.

That allowed me to get a decent grip on the program. The next shirt was taking a bit of a break - it was a very simple typographic treatment of a quote from another favorite game of mine - Metal Gear Solid.

The final shirt you see is actually a recreation of a very old work done by myself, previously. It was an original piece by me that came from the top of my head. I liked the design, and revisited it a few years later to touch it up a bit.

Then my PC died, and I lost almost everything. The original .PSD for the design being one of those things.

You'll probably notice a bit of a color change between the full designs, and the designs on the shirt - I'm not sure what happens, but RedBubble [The store through which I sell these] changes the color of the file for some reason.
Shadow of the Colossus is quite possibly my favorite game of all time, second only to Metal Gear Solid.

The presentation, and story – or lack thereof, really – stuns me. The fact that a Playstation 2 was even capable of a game that beautiful – coupled with the fact that it’s even more beautiful in the HD remaster, and that the remaster really hasn’t changed much from the original title – is absolutely amazing.

Whoever the girl is [It’s never really revealed, leaving her relationship to Wander up to your imagination], Wander is willing to risk his life and overcome pretty much anything just to save her.

As far as the shirt is concerned, it’s based on the fact that Wander [The main character] has to climb these enormous mountains of beings and take them down in order to “save the girl”.

It takes guts – and just a slight bit of psychosis, possibly – to do what he did.

The sigil and text are all done in Illustrator. The sigil itself representing the “weak point” found on each of the Colossi [I never knew there was a plural of that word]. It’s not the exact same sigil, as that seems to be impossible to find, and it’s hard to recreate from screenshots of the game – it’s usually obscured in fur and motion blur.

The sigil used can be found in the Official Art Book – it was the cover of the book [Under the protective sleeve]. I combined the two scans of the cover, and traced it out in Illustrator as best I could.

It’s a little rough, but I actually kind of like the effect – feels like it’s closer to the real thing, maybe.

The last of the shirts I've done so far.

Needed something new to do. Something challenging. So, I decided to go back to an old design of mine and remake it.

I’ve been learning how to use Illustrator lately and wanted to try and do something new there – the original design was done in Photoshop, so it wasn’t completely vector.

Plus, I’d lost the original .PSD after my PC died a while back, so I had no choice but to redesign it. There are a few noticeable differences – such as the placement of the stereo buttons, and the banner on the cassette itself, but for the most part, I tried to stay as faithful to the original design as I possibly could.
Think I did pretty well.
