Body Processing Factory | book design about freaks

The importance of things is not simply reflected by their size. In my daily life, I am interested in observing the changes brought by subtle objects, characters and environment. Therefore I find an echo in a movie which describes a kind-hearted image but subtle, weak and even hidden by the environment. In my design, the tragic freaks of eighteenth century are chosen as the main character. They are the lost group born in misfortune for the inherent disadvantages. Focusing on their self-consciousness and internal and external reactions (situations and the attitudes they keep) under inherent conditions, I keep close eyes on how they deal with inner world and self-contradiction. At the same time, similar as mirrors, their hearts can be largely affected by the outside environment which can reflect other people’s reactions. It is of great importance to reflect general public’s attitudes towards them for the disrespectful treatment they received. Sharing similar tragic experience, artist Hannelore Baron is good at reflecting stories and emotions on materials. Referring this, I select  and combine main character group’s outside image and rich inner world for the design of books’ colour, characteristics as well as the shapes and structures in them. The series of books are supported by the story introduction of relevant characters while the characters’ kindness is discussed through the visual expression of their state.
