Louis Mackay's profile

Diver – Book design and illustration

, by Tony Groom, is a vivid and entertaining account of the author's experiences, below decks and under water, first in the Royal Navy, and later as a commercial diver. As a naval clearance diver, he found himself having to deal with an unexploded Argentine bomb (British made) lodged near the magazine of a British warship at the height of the 1982 South Atlantic war. As a commercial 'saturation' diver he worked on oil installations in the depths of the North Sea and other oceans. The design brief for the illustrated paperback book included the cover design and photomontage, the page layout including two art-paper sections, photographic retouching, the creation of maps, diagrams, graphics for the accompanying DVD, and a series of advertisements and promotional graphics.
