For this matte painting I had to conceptualize on what Legendary meant to me within a scene. The thought brought with it influences from fantasy movies and MMORPGS. Specifically, Hercules, Guild Wars, and Legend of Zelda. A place that is “legendary” is often one that is nearly impossible to get to - if not just complete rumour and myth. The hero often pursues the discovery of this place because there are great rewards within it. I wanted my scene to be difficult to get to by creating placing it near a large waterfall, one that would wreck ships. The threshold is rimmed by stone guardians, that not only protect the area but heed trespassers. The riches are the golden statues and sirens, as often in the midst of paradise the hero is in danger of committing sin.
