Artist Statement
Anneke Wood is a Melbourne based Artist, whose practice explores facets of female identity, through engagement with ideas of the grotesque and the personal as political. Primarily with the use of video, photography, and performance, Wood engages the audience in questions of identity and sociocultural ideas of the female experience. Influenced by her interest in female collectives, she is focused on exploring situations in which women are often required to be silent and unheard. Through working in groups with other women, Wood creates new spaces and narratives which challenge and subvert notions of the male gaze.
