Wolfgang Weingart - Master of Typography

Wolfgang Weingart was born in 1941 in Germany. He lived with his family in Libson, where he began to take interest in art museums as a young child. Went He studied at the Merz Academy and learned the hands on techniques of graphic design, including typesetting and printing. He took his talent to a printing shop in the city of Stuttgart. He began to practice Swiss typography and became interested in bending the rules of Swiss design. He went against the strict adherence to the grid, but he believed in a logical order of type, a hierarchy of information that makes sense. With this new style, he inspired the Swiss Punk typography movement. He went on to become a teacher at the Basel School of Design, still teaching there to this day.
