“Dream logic” is often used by critics to describe the works of artist and director David Lynch such as Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet. Twin Peaks has two clashing aesthetics and worlds. One is familiar and comforting while the other is haunting and confusing. These two worlds exist in the the same place at the same time, often spilling into one another; disrupting the universe. David Lynch creates fear confusion and curiosity  as he blends the line between reality and dreams. Much like his movies and TV shows, David Lynch’s artwork evokes similar feelings of uneasiness.

Illusory is a collection of duality.  As surrealism is the duality of reality and dreams, and the textiles chosen reflect this same idea as they contrast one another in each look. Unconventional materials such as upholstery fabrics and plastic mesh are used along with softer and finer textiles. Silhouettes are menswear inspired and kept causal. Strong shoulders and utilitarian-like structures are to combat the idea of femininity and the way women are portrayed in David Lynch’s work.  The woman I’m designing for isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of femininity and blur gender expectations through fashion. She is conscious about how art influences the world around her. She likes to stay modern and chic but likes to play around with unique textural fabrics inspired by her favorite modern art pieces.

The season I’m designing for is  Autumn/Winter 2018/19. The price range is Ready to Wear. However, the garments are designed to look more high-end but are still affordable to a woman who is in her late 20’s to mid 30’s living in New York City.
