Problems & Solutions:
The magazine cover had several problems to be solved. One issue came from the research. I read that a lot of readers had issues with the amount of ads in the text. I learned that over 80% of funds come from ads with magazines so I had to to tweak the content to say instead of “less ads” to “more content.” I also had to change the color of certain fonts to make reading a lot easier. A third issue was my attempt to create a second mask. This mask was taking up too much space on the cover. I decided to have less content on the cover so that the design would not be too cluttered.
Having too much content on the cover can take away from the photo. 

Starting with Elle Décor, beginning with some reviews left by customers. Firstly, almost half of reviews ranked below 5 Star rating. 46% of reviews had left comments showing displeasure. Most customers complained about the lack of content and that the magazine consistent of mostly Ads. One user notes, “bought this magazine as part of a bundle with two others. you know something is wrong when the first page is a clothing or makeup ad. i had hoped the magazine elle would have hired some decor experts to write it but nope. 5 minutes on the web and you'll see far more ideas then a years subscription to all three.” -Mini Racer. This user along with several others wanted more content. Another source also indicates too many ads. “This magazine contains 100 pages of ads. Its awful[.]” -Décor Diva.

Lastly, Architectural Digest readers complained about issues regarding too many ads, content not being relatable, and app malfunctions. “They upgraded the app, but I lost all the previous issues I subscribed and downloaded! Their sync instruction does not work at all! I have never seen any software designed THIS bad! Absolutely not recommended!” -FZ. A whopping 42% percent felt the magazine deserved less than 5 stars. Readers also felt that the design concepts were too pricey and out-of-touch. Another issue is noted from a different source regarding that their subscription never arrived and there was a negative customer service experience.

My magazine will not only address the issues customers have experienced with these two top competitors but will also provide the eye-catching content to keep readers hooked. My magazine will have something for everyone to enjoy with a variety of content, very little ads without content shaped around it and sponsor pages, mobile friendly design, outstanding customer service, and etc.
