Experiments: Our task was to come to class with things to make letters by hand, but we could not bring pencils, markers, pens, brushes, or anything else traditionally used. So we had to use our brains. I dug up sponges, office supplies, string, some twine, and other things with the intent of dipping them in paint to create letters. I experimented with a variety of materials and techniques, at last settling on dipping a thin piece of string through paint and then running it carefully across the paper (circled in red).
Thumbnails: Next, we research and choose a non-profit organization that can most closely connect with the look and feel of our new technique. The varying width and sharpness reminded me of a twig, so I chose The Nature Conservancy's Plant A Billion program to advertise.
Color Comp: A two-color mockup for a two-color design. I actually used the technique on this piece.
The Final Piece: 25"x25" poster to be given as a gift to Plant A Billion donors as a thank-you.
