Totoro Cuckoo Clock

This is a project done for an animation modeling class in SCAD. The goal was to model a cuckoo clock in which I choose to do a Totoro-themed cuckoo clock. Character models were done in Zbrush, textured and baked in Substance Painter, and then rendered with Vray for Maya.

The crystal bushes are the trickiest part of the project. I modeled the bushes in Zbrush, put a glass shader and duplicate the mesh to make it into a vray light mesh. After that, it's just a matter of tweaking and adjusting the light intensity and the glass reflection channel to make it look believable.

Here is another close up shot of the cuckoo clock characters. I used the bus stop scene as my main reference as that scene proves to be the most memorable part of the movie.

Here's a few close up shots of the characters. Everything were sculpted in Zbrush (except for the bus stop sign and the umbrella, which were done in Maya) and retopo-ed using Zremesher due to tight deadline. I used Substance Painter to bake the detailed Normal map and texturing the meshes.
