Hold the candle

My life without me in the shadow
rewards no one’s indulgence.

I give back your stolen treasures
in the hope of regaining my sense of mystery
and the joy of knowing
we’re not misintentioned.

Regard this as my final wish

Before the inevitable collapse of redundant complexity
and yesterday’s sacrifice of abandoned children;
I send my holy debris at Eden’s poker table
to puzzle over the scraps of mercy
keeping you from killing me.

If you can see behind the headlights,
find me.

Speak to me of ice and carnage
That you may stop my ears from screaming.
