I run a small twitter account named Sporting District where I follow Washington's sports teams and as part of that I make graphic design pieces to go along with the tweets.

For the winter sports teams that I tweet about, namely the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, I decided to do something decidedly Washington in my design for the graphic elements I post. Drawing inspiration from the Metro map designed by Lance Wyman that has become instantly recognizable for Washington D.C. residents and tourists alike, this design uses that iconic map as a vehicle to convey information. Instead of station names being named after neighborhoods in and around the District, they have instead become nodes, each containing snippets of information relevant to the purpose of that graphic element.

Overlaid on a background of the unique street map of Washington, D.C. that still harkens back to L'Enfant's plan for the city, and with a shadow to add depth, this graphic style is light on pictures in an attempt to stay true to the spirit of the original WMATA map's design. In addition to static designs, there are also a couple motion graphics included for each team.

Several of the graphics I make in this style are not particular to one team or sport, such as quotes, milestones, award selections, or transactions. Those will go here.
