The Elf Warrior

The Elf Warrior

When I started the concepts for this model, I wanted something that describes a Female Elf warrior fairly loosely as I like to work in a organic manner. The armour is light and only covers areas likely to be attacked in combat.
The helmet was designed with Elf type armour in mind from games like Skyrim. It has swooping lines and is open at the back.  The helmet design kept to being rudimental to keep a low polygon count, but I wanted it to show scars from many battles.
The bump maps added pitted detail on the helmet to give a battle scarred effect and lines on the hands of the figure. The texture created the effects of folds of fabric on her clothing and skin tones are life- like.

If I had to do another Elf warrior, I would make the armor slightly more decorative knowing what can be achieved with texturing. Perhaps, make her clothing more loose and free-flowing, like a hood and cape.

This project was done on weekends only due to work commitments and took several months. It was the most ambitious project to date and was a challenge I am proud to have completed.

I had problems with the normal maps and that is why they are not present here with the other maps. I think next time I will try and see if Maya is better for creating and applying normal maps.

The renders I chose to represent my work used Ambient Occlusion exclusively, as I decided the bump maps were being affected by Radiosity effects in a way that was undesirable.
Illustrating the results of optimising the topology of the high polygon model to a lower polygon model.

4,704 polygons includes the helmet.
