Swakopmund City Brand | A proposal

INTRODUCTION

Swakopmund is an idyllic coastal city of Namibia in Africa. It is a city with a lot of history, and currently it is growing larger by the year. The city is full of fresh, modern and burgeoning businesses. This growth is not important just for the city and its citizens but for the country's economy and reputation as well. Swakopmund is one of the more popular holiday and work destinations in Namibia.

It is for this growth and development reason along with one other, that I think Swakopmund needs a brand identity. Current representations of the city only go so far as to mark the name and not anything.

With a well-developed brand identity Swakopmund could stand along the lines with other cities such as Melbourne or Cape Town.

This is my proposal.

THE LOGO & ITS MARKS

In making the logo I focused on three things:

     1) Simplicity
     2) History
     3) Authority

The simplicity is easily remarked. The history and the authority are marked by the founders date. Together I feel it marks the city's identity in full.

As you can see the lighthouse in the logo is derived from the city's coat of arms. I had to redraw the current coat of arms to modernize it as you'll see below.

ALL FINAL DELIVERABLES

TOURING BY BICYCLE:

The bicycle below is an idea for tourists or citizen who'd like to travel the city at a leisurely pace. The bicycles belong to the city as does the company that run and manage the service. With your City Card you can rent them for whatever duration you want and once you are done with a bicycle; you can just leave it at any of the designated locations that act as bike-racks. It's a come and go service aimed at great ease of use.
