DL1 Surface Design: Project

This is the project page for my DL1 Surface Design project.
We had to design our own letter form for our word that most describes us. We also had to design a pattern then combine it with the letter form into a repeat pattern. We then had to take our designs into Photoshop and make a six second animation/gif. The following patterns were based on my bearded dragon, Berri; every dragon in the patterns is Berri.

re·form
verb
to make changes in something in order to improve it

I chose this word because I believe no one is perfect. Humans are similar to art; we're always making corrections and reforming ourselves. No one is fully formed which is why we're always reforming even at the age of 60. My nonna is in her 60's and she's still going through phases like a teenager.

FUN FACT
Almost all lizards can drop their tails at any point of time as a self defense mechanism. Some of these reptiles can regrow or reform their tails over a period of time. This defence mechanism called caudal autonomy normally happens when the animal feels threatened or is grabbed by the tail.
Reformed Letter Form:
Above is my final letter form of the word reform. The letters are awkwardly shaped to show that they themselves need to be reformed. The letters also have jagged edges where a serif would usually be showing that it is incomplete and still has some growing to do. The inside of the letter form is scales ranging in many different sizes similar to a bearded dragons scales as they descend along the body.

Program Used: Adobe Illustrator CC 2017

Bearded Dragon & Reformed Bearded Dragons patterns:
On the left is a close up of my first pattern without the reform letter form. On the right it a close up of my second pattern with the reform letter form.

Bearded Dragon pattern, Letter Form, & One Berri At A Time:
On the left page are some Society6 products with both of my patterns (plus a close up of one) along with my letter form and one Berri on them.
MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES
Close Up Bearded Dragon pattern and One Berri At A Time:
Two of my favourite products I designed are the bigger version of the Bearded Dragon repeat pattern on the notebook and clock as well as One Berri At A Time on the bath mat.
Reformed Gif:
Above is my gif I created to go along with this project. It has all the elements I used to create the Reformed Bearded Dragon pattern in it. It isn't exactly how I wanted it to look but with program limitations of Photoshop this is close to what I wanted to accomplish.

Program Used: Adobe Photoshop CC 2017
Surface Design Presentation Board:
Above is my presentation board for the Society6 mockups for this project. The products are available on my Society6 profile. My Society6 link is at the top of this page.
