Why I chose this poem?

I chose this poem as I have studied it inleaving cert and is one of the poems that has stuck with me sence. This poem has emotional conection experiencing of loss in the family. Having unforgetable single line imagery .

Mid -Term Break

I sat all morning in the college sick bay

Counting bells knelling classes to a close.

At two o'clock our neighbours drove me home.

In the porch I met my father crying

He had always taken funerals in his stride

And Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow.

The baby cooed and laughed and rocked the pram

When I came in, and I was embarrassed

By old men standing up to shake my hand

And tell me they were 'sorry for my trouble'.

Whispers informed strangers I was the eldest,

Away at school, as my mother held my hand

In hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs.

At ten o'clock the ambulance arrived

With the corpse, stanched and bandaged by the nurses.

Next morning I went up into the room. Snowdrops

And candles soothed the bedside; I saw him

For the first time in six weeks. Paler now,

Wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple,

He lay in the four-foot box as in his cot.

No gaudy scars, the bumper knocked him clear.

A four-foot box, a foot for every year.

This is a similar idea i have in my head and hopefully produce something along these lines.

This is the image is where I got the idea of projection mapping. Its a pice a work from the Amsterdam museum , at first it looked like a beautiful dresser but once we moved away it was just this plan wooded dresser.

This is the first few rough sketches at the very begging of the project where I was thinking of how the box would look .My end result is to have A Plain white four foot box

This is sketch of all the symbols with in the poem.

This was one of early sketches when I was thinking of having a few box's and the projection mapping would have it as if it was moving then opening to share the memory that Seamus Heany is showing us in 'Mid-Term -Break'. I was thinking of having the box open and have film as like they were old home made moves. That we all have that box at home that is stuffed with old memories and thought the audience would have that connection with the story been told.That the story is told by a young boy therefore Im thinking of having the illustrations as stick men as though it was drawn out by a child .
