My collar collection is a representation of the emotional evolution females experience transitioning from the naiveté of girlhood to the harsh reality of self-criticism and outside scrutiny of be- ing a woman. In order to change the message, I’ve played with common phrases and reversed their message as statement pieces. “Feminism” has a negative connotation that I’m working to redirect during this relevant time when, society is defining itself within the context of the movement. I chose these historical collar structures to emphasize the strength in the neck. e neck is delicate but sturdy; it carries our vehicle of voice and the burden of a heavy head, just as women carry a weight attached to their assigned societal role. I intend to release this weight if only slightly by adding to the ever going collective feminist effort. These collars give a chance to wear feminism in an outward and intentional manner.
