For a class assignment, we were asked to rework a full color image into just black and white and to use the negative space to create the form of the image. I chose a pineapple as my subject because the texture of the object made it challenging. Through this project I was able to get a better grasp of how negative space forms an object and how to use the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.

This portrait was created using Adobe Illustrator for a redesigned cover of The Great Gatsby. I felt that a negative space portrait captured the melancholy tone of the novel while still representing the time period where photography was primarily black and white.
