The Loewe Banana Tree

The Loewe Banana Tree
"sometimes the work hides inside a beautiful box, like a rabbit in a top hat "
On Christmas of 2014, Acierta was given the challenge of making a shop window for Loewe based on an early-century wooden banana tree that the fashion firm had acquired in an antiquarian shop. The idea was that the banana tree would represent a curious Christmas tree, and we were asked to make replicas for all the Loewe shop windows stores around the world.

Whe said it was a challenge since replicating the piece of wood was not feasible and we opted for the pottery as the base material. The new banana tree consisted of a handmade ceramic sculpture made in Valencia, which varied in height - depending on the shop window - from 1.10 to 1.70 meters, and was composed of more than 300 individual ceramic pieces, assembled one by one.

The use of ceramics was a success, as it allowed us to endow each piece with textural shades and a rich colour that can only be achieved in a high-temperature furnaces. After its manufacture, came the most complicated thing: the packaging and the transfer of the banana trees from Valencia to different destinations, around the globe, given its fragility. The end-result of the Christmas shop windows wats spectacular.
