Themed Waterpark Events: Blue Sky Concept

Waterpark Events: Themed!
Blue Sky Concepts

Objective
In an effort to really ramp up excitement for Splash Island Nights, a nighttime event that extends the waterpark hours and allows guests to “splash under the stars,” we are considering adding themed nights to the lineup.

Please come up with other ideas on themes or ideas for games to flesh out the theme if you like. We will also buy prizes geared toward our theme night instead of buying the usual bulk of leis and flower clips.

With each theme, consider the dancers/team members/guests who will physically be in attendance, and how they can come dressed for the party and help enhance the theme.

Themed Ideas
•    Calling All Trainers! A Pokémon Party (90's/Pokémon GO/TCG)
•    A Patronus Pool Party (Based on Harry Potter franchise)

Calling All Trainers!
Do you wanna be the very best,
like no one ever was?

Concept
There’s an infestation of pocket monsters over at the local waterpark, and we need your help to catch ‘em all!

Themed Activities
1. Using the three Pokémon GO teams, we will host a virtual catching tournament. Players will be asked to screenshot the Pokémon they catch in the park and post it to social media with an appropriate hashtag.

The team a player associates with will determine where they post their Pokémon:
Snapchat = Team Instinct (Yellow)
Twitter = Team Mystic (Blue)
Instagram = Team Valor (Red)

The "team" with the most Pokémon caught will be the winners and have bragging rights. The park's Facebook page will announce the winning team.

2. For those who don't have smartphones (or data), we will also offer a TCG Pokémon catching tournament on-park by hiding 50-100* water Pokémon cards.
*Please note that Pokémon cards can cost as little as .50¢

This will give 90's kids a chance to find something nostalgic, but also allow children to "find" a Pokémon and leave the park with a souvenir.

3. Using the Entertainment Department's group of dancers (who normally lead guests in steps to songs throughout the night anyway), we can invite guests to have a dance-off with Team Rocket!

Dressed in black tank tops with a big red "R" on their chest, the dancers will encourage guests to do what they do already -- dance to the music and have fun!

As prizes to the winners of the Team Rocket dance-off, we can offer a stuffed Pokémon*. This ties into the Pokémon storyline that Team Rocket steal all of their Pokémon, so the winner will be told the Pokémon has chosen to "join their party."
*Games already have Pokémon toys as prizes, so we can order some through them.

Nightly Giveaway

Playing on the nostalgia of 20-30-year-olds, we can host a "Who's That Pokémon" Contest every hour. It would be based on the short segment that would play after every episode while showing a silhouette of a Pokémon while asking the audience, "Who's that Pokémon?"

This would theme the usual "enter your name" ticket drawing we normally do, and encourage guests to really engage with the drawing rather than passively entering it.

Each hour, the DJ will either pause the music or play the Pokémon theme song ("I Wanna Be the Very Best") and announce that a new Pokémon has been spotted in the area. From there, he will instruct guests to go over and fill out an entry form with an answer to, "Who's That Pokémon?"

Marketing will change out a Pokémon silhouette box art every hour in tandem with the announcement, and empty out the box of entries. At the end of the hour, the DJ will announce who the Pokémon was, draw a winner, and then announce that a new Pokémon has been seen (restarting the process).

Giveaway Entry Table

Besides hosting the "Who's That Pokémon" contest, we could also offer similar face painting like last year, but with a printed outline of minimalist choices for guests (and act as a guide for those actually painting faces).

Photo Opportunities

Our graphic designers can create a photo op in-house that will encourage guests to share their pics on social (also through the hashtag).

We could also create a marker for a "real" PokéStop (reflecting the virtual one in-game located at our waterpark).

It's a Patronus Pool Party!
Wizards and witches are welcome!
(Muggles will be tolerated).

Concept
The parties at Hogwarts’ Black Lake are legendary (just ask the giant squid), but with school out for the summer, there’s only one place to go: a waterpark!
Join us for a night of unforgettable fun where you might just make that happy memory powerful enough to cast a Patronus charm…

Themed Activities
1. Using the Entertainment Department's dancers, we could provide a different house tank top to each dancer in order to not only represent each Hogwarts' house, but give the guests a chance to "compete" against each house in a dance-off, hula-hoop contest, etc.
2. Host a Magical Beasts Scavenger Hunt (to tie in the new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Guests can pick up the scavenger hunt from the Giveaway Entry Table and go on the search for four magical creatures:
-Mermaid (at the wave pool)
-Grindylow (at the shallow children's play area)
-Owl (at the macaw exhibit)
-Pixie (at the merchandise location)

3. Provide white and blue chalk for guests to draw their Patronus animal on the ground and let the theme properly take over the waterpark.

4. Provide glow sticks to use as wands (or wear).

Trivia
To help break up the night, we could have a few rounds of simple trivia with 5-10 questions. This would give guests a chance to win it for their Hogwarts' House and earn a magical prize!

Giveaway Entry Table
1. Instead of tattoos or face paint, this magical event needs a sorting! By glancing at the house colors a guest may or may not be wearing and asking a few obvious questions, an attendant at the table will "sort" a guest into their Hogwarts' house!

It would be great if we had something to hand off to guests as we send them on their way (to their house!). There are dozens of online templates for house ties, or even badges, patches, and stickers that we could order.
Nightly Giveaways
1. To change up the boring entry form, we could edit the format and ask guests to write down their Patronus! This way, when the DJ pulls the winner, he can read off the name and the Patronus (vocalizing the theme with each announcement).

2. Instead of asking guests to slip their entry into an acrylic box, we can create a goblet of fire for brave Hogwarts students to enter their name.
Photo Opportunities
1. It's a Patronus party, so we should have some of our favorite animals represented from the animal park! Graphics could create an in-house animal banner depicting our sloth, kinkajou, and silver-crested cockatoo as a wispy blue and white Patronus.

2. A photo op created to take advantage of our dark after-hours would be fantastic, such as a scene depicting the floating castles of the great hall. We could provide guests with brooms, house ties, and other relevant props to add to the experience.
