I have never owned a leather backpack in the past. Leather sure is very exciting material, it the sturdiest yet the classiest of materials. The proposition of making a project as extensive as this with leather, which is a relatively material for me, excited me a lot and really pushed my creative side. Modern backpacks are built in factories, and often used fake leather, mainly because it is a much cheaper alternative. The art of making traditional leather backpack is a very complex procedure. It requires a lot more attention to detail, using the right quality of leather, using proper stiffeners, and then using exquisite lining all beautifully stitched together to finish it off.

As leather was fairly new to me, the project had it unique complexities. The sewing of leather is much different of sewing of any other material. Leather is thick so it needs a heavy-duty sewing machine or special tools for doing so. Another problem came up during the selection of lining, which had to contrast the outside color as well as make the inner feel lively. The stitching had to be strong yet elegant to complement the design as well as to hold the weight of the bad and its content. Ultimately, the project made me go further with my creative and thinking skills. It also made me a bit more knowledgeable about the intricacies of accessories design.
