Kalevala Rune III Cut Paper

Kalevala Rune III Cut Paper Illustration.

Basically Väinämöinen & Joukahainen have an epic song battle. Near the end of the rune/poem, Väinämöinen magically sings Joukahainen into the swamp. Joukahainen offers Väinämöinen many things to stop him from sinking him. But Väinämöinen has no need for his offers and sinks him further into the swamp after each offer. In this point of the illustration, when Joukahainen is desperate, he offers his lovely sister Aino to Väinämöinen to be his bride. This is one of my favorite runes/poems in the Kalevala.

Here I mostly inked and cut out the the pieces. This was made to go inside an Altoids Tin, so the Illustration is going to be small.
Some pieces that were cut got smaller than one inch. Bristol paper is hard to cut with a knife when pieces get this small may I add.
Drawing small details on a half inch character was also a challenge. Had to use a very thin Copic Multiliner pen for that.
I decided to add a light ink wash to the trees in the back.
Mod Podge was used to attach the bristol paper to the tin. I tested other glues I owned to see if they would stick. Unfortunately, they didn't, so I had to buy Mod Podge and a foam brush for this particular project. Hot glue gun and PH Neutral PVA was used to attach the other pieces to the paper.
