Craft Cluster Project: Zardozi in Turkman Gate

To carry out study dying craft of zardozi in northern part of old Delhi. Beautiful in its own unique way, Turkman Gate was the designated craft cluster for the study. Zardozi is a bedazzling needle craft that has stood the test of time and percolated from royalties and adapted by masses nowadays. Embellishments heavy on gold back then are now replaced with gold/silver plated brass wires. There have been multiple revivals of the craft that has stopped it from being obsolete and in turn made it accessible to both lower and upper strata of the society. Thanks to designers like Sabyasachi and Taurn Tahiliani, who have modernized this craft and made mark in the market as Zari- aficionados for themselves.

Therefore, it was very interesting to research and document this wonderful craft of this glittering gold, pf Zardozi. Rather than just admiring the skillfulness of the artisans, we thoroughly examined their socio - economic conditions, emotional involvement and financial limitations involved with this craft.

The work uploaded here is the coffee table book on the same. The research project was carried out for 4 months with other collaterals such as - Research Report, Documentary video, PowerPoint presentation to highlight current scenario of the craft and craftsmen.
