Voodoo Dingbats:
Challenge: The goal was to create a set of dingbats. There needed to be enough to complete the alphabet. The dingbats first would have to be hand rendered and then completed digitalized.
Solution: First I had to come up with three different ideas of dingbats for the assignment, they were a beach theme, a weapon theme, and a voodoo theme. When showing off all thumbnails it was a unanimous decision for the voodoo dolls. I then hand drew many different versions of voodoo dolls. Each one is vastly different ranging from a Mummy to a Panda. I was then to digitalize the dingbats by scanning them into the computer and then tracing them over with the pen tool. The pen tool part took a while considering the many different layers each piece is on. In the end the first image is the result of the digitalized version of my dingbats.
Ecology Posters:
Challenge: To design a poster for an ecology website with a focus on one of their main research articles. Each one must be similar enough to recognize that they are for the same campaign but still have their own unique design to them. Each poster must have the subject title and a sub title along with a paragraph explaining about the subject.
Solution: After extensive research on what topic I wanted to do I had ended up with nuclear radiation, I then had to find a website that focuses of my subject (United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission). I then needed to create thumbnails on how each poster was to look like. After creating the thumbnails and getting them approved I then began digitalizing said thumbnails. To start, I first picked out the font for both the title and subtitle and also the body copy. I then created the posters, one with a gas mask, a hand showing desperation, and a body figure showing important places radiation can damage. The background I decided was to be a simple black with blood splatters. The color choice for the design was because people associate red a black together as a sign of danger, and that was what I was trying to convey in the design. The final results are shown in images two through four.
