XOM Holiday Party

Breaking the Ice as Creatively as Possible
For many employees, attending their company's holiday party is a necessary evil. It can be especially daunting for spouses or significant others who don't know anyone.

ExxonMobil employees had one heck of an ice breaker at their annual holiday party when one of the room's decorations - the Christmas tree - suddenly began following some guests as they loaded up their plates at the buffet or requested a sip of their drinks as they queued up at the bar.  Inside the tree, which was created expressly for their event, was a comedian.

The tree served as a creative ice breaker and also helped divert those who waited in lines for drinks or food.  Suddenly, those waiting in line - may of them spouses or new to the team - were posing with the tree and other party guests. The tree - later renamed "the yakking yew" - was such a hit, that it was featured on the front page of the Houston Business Journal.
