I had a print design project this semester based on the Heimtextil trends 2017. The work which i have added till date is all my own creation and was a part of my minithesis project.

I started the project with three Sindhi signature crafts (ajrak,ralli and sindhi embroidery) which were to be infused with Pakistani truck art. This is why my initial drawings involves the study of Sindhi crafts.But by the time I realized that there were more diversified options to explore if I take three different crafts from three different regions/provinces of Pakistan.
So, I opted for Truck Art ( from Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa), Basketry art
 ( from Punjab) and Ralli ( from Sindh).

Trend: Cultural Explorations

Theme: Fusion

Objective:

To infuse different Pakistani crafts in order to develop modernized designs by addressing visual attributes of the selected crafts.

Abstract:

The main focus is to infuse Truck art with basketry art and keeping Sindhi Ralli as a supporting element. All three of the crafts are from different regions of the country. The reason of opting for such different crafts as a source is to create some new designs which would set an example of cultural diversity. As the key idea of chosen trend is to highlight the similarities between the cultures and shaping some contemporary designs out of them. It will be a great opportunity to explore innovations through weaving techniques such as basketry, off-loom weaving, collage work, mix media and embroidery techniques. Contemporary Urban Ethnic of basketry aided with Geometric elements of Ralli and together infused with the wide range of organic and narrative elements of truck art will result in some new contemporary designs fulfilling the concept of the trend itself.

Aims and Outcomes:

To design a product range for an interior of a theme based cafe. Which will include window blinds, wall panels,table mats, hand woven seatings and hall hangings etc.
