River Hull- Poetry Library

Cameron Farrell- Year 2: Semester 1
This project based on the west side of the river Hull is about organization and a combination of classical and modern architecture. The building design came about by the idea of trying to bring back a style of architecture that came before the Hull Blitz during the war. It was an attempt to get away from the post war industrial style buildings and bring something with a certain sophistication to the area. This idea however did not work and after much development the idea became a merging of classical and modern styles. I wanted the library to become a place of organization and style. A place that people can also go to socialize outside and use as an experience rather than just a place to take  books out. I experimented with different shapes the building could take and began to find myself at a struggle. Because of this i took a step back and started looking inwards designing for function rather than from the outside of the building. symmetry was an important aspect in this design and when it comes to landscaping, that will be symmetrical also, designed around a grid.
