The Leeds Community Project

One of my largest projects during my time at Leeds University Union, The Leeds Community Project is an initiative to bring a sense of community to areas such as Hyde Park and Woodhouse, which are meeting points between students and residents. The look of this project needed to sit within the Student Life strand of the brand, using the green and blue colour combination and the heart element. The identity needed to be flexible but consistently recognisable on a number of applications. Something I was particularly cautious of during this project was the inherent cuteness that comes with using hearts. However, I feel I have successfully circumvented this issue with this design.

I designed the main icon of the logo not only to represent the unification of students and residents, but also to be de-constructed, and reformed into other patterns and symbols on different design assets. This is a flyer I created for the Easter campaign showing how these shapes can be used to make a themed image. For other deliverables (shown in the next images) patterns have also been made from the same elements.
This has created a different feel to each campaign but also a clear consistency.

The Pop Up banner and housing booklet shown below are examples of how the elements of this brand have been used to create patterns. On the banner the pattern simply uses the full icon. Whereas, within the housing booklet the elements of the brand have been used to create a pattern reminiscent of terraced roofs.
