I will fly you far, far away from Hawera
Hawera is a provincial town in South Taranaki, Aotearoa New Zealand. I was born there in 1979. A friend of mine who lived there once told me that she used to dream David Bowie would “fly [her] far, far away from Hawera”. I had pretty much exactly the same fantasy. That is what this artwork is about: commonality, fantasy, provincialism and escape. And Bowie.
