Balance Design Intervention

Project Brief
Student teams set out to design an interactive intervention based on a word, construct it physically, and deploy it into space to have users interact with it. My team selected the word “balance” because as humans, we naturally struggle to find balance in our everyday lives. Our final design was a banner constructed from fencing wire, laminated colored cellophane, and rope hung on beams at CSULB to cast a shadow of our chosen word onto the ground. Utilizing red and blue cellophane we created a balanced purple shadow. Users interacted with the installation by writing things they were trying to balance in their own lives and/or how they achieve balance in their lives around the shadow.
