Southwest is a project which in its visual form is based on the documentation collected in October 2016, during a journey through the deserts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. The route was little short of 4000 miles. It was marked out by the locations important for the pop-cultural ethos of the American Southwest, which fills this endless area with a rich fabric of myths and conspiracy theories ranging from the times of the Cold War to the present day. These deserted places are connected with hundreds of speculations about conspiracies, alternative explanations of world conflicts and catastrophes, effectuated by the conviction that secret military technologies influence reality and determine the progress of civilization. In direct experience, it turns out that its course is reversed here. Gradual depopulation has triggered a process of entropy, which is taking over the places that once to be organized by man. It seems that the only reason for their persistence is that the desert areas of the Southwest are the tourist destination for hundreds of thousands of people, mainly from Europe and Asia. The Southwest cycle is based on the phenomenon of multiplication of the images of this reality in an innumerable number of picture frames produced by such people. Despite the fact that the works of the cycle look like photographs of an ordinary reporter, they loose their documentary character because of the manipulations performed on them. The world presented in them, derived from reality, is distorted and is subject to metamorphosis, while the facts are interpreted here according to their own principles.
